Kylie Jenner’s Birthday Surprise for Timothée Chalamet Was Pure Hollywood Romance

The beauty mogul planned a private IMAX screening of Interstellar — and even got an apology out of it

February 21, 2026

Kylie Jenner clearly understood the assignment when it came to celebrating Timothée Chalamet’s 30th birthday — and the surprise she planned was both thoughtful and cinematic.

During a recent sit-down interview, Matthew McConaughey — who played Cooper, the father of Chalamet’s character in Interstellar — revealed that Kylie organized a private IMAX screening of the 2014 sci-fi epic as a birthday gift for her boyfriend. And yes, it just so happens that Timothée appears in the film himself.

The twist? Timothée had no idea what was happening — and he wasn’t exactly thrilled at first.

A Grumpy Ride to a Perfect Surprise

According to Timothée, the celebration started with confusion. Kylie told him they were heading somewhere for his birthday, but didn’t reveal the destination. As they drove about 30 minutes outside of Los Angeles, he admitted he was less than cheerful.

“It’s my birthday,” he recalled thinking, “why are we driving this far?”

Little did he know, the mystery location was an IMAX theater set up exclusively to screen Interstellar — one of his favorite films and an important milestone in his acting career.

When the lights went down and he realized what Kylie had planned, his mood shifted instantly.

“I said, ‘Oh, I’m sorry I was so grumpy on the drive,’” he joked, acknowledging the irony of doubting a surprise that turned out to be perfectly tailored to him.

A Full-Circle Moment

Interstellar, directed by Christopher Nolan, marked an early major role for Timothée Chalamet, who played the teenage version of Tom Cooper. The film went on to become a cultural phenomenon, praised for its emotional depth, visual scale, and Hans Zimmer’s unforgettable score.

For Timothée, revisiting it in IMAX — especially as a 30th birthday celebration — wasn’t just nostalgic. It was symbolic. The screening served as a reminder of how far he’s come since that early role to now becoming one of Hollywood’s most in-demand leading men.

And having Matthew McConaughey share the story publicly only added another layer of charm to the moment.

Kylie and Timothée’s Low-Key Romance

Kylie Jenner and Timothée Chalamet have kept much of their relationship private, but moments like this offer a rare glimpse into their dynamic. The birthday surprise suggests a playful and thoughtful connection — one where she knows exactly what would make him feel special.

Instead of a flashy celebrity party or over-the-top spectacle, Kylie chose something meaningful and personal. A favorite film. A private theater. A quiet but grand gesture.

And apparently, one very quick apology.

Fans Are Loving It

Once the story surfaced, fans couldn’t get enough of the adorable detail that Timothée was “grumpy” on the way to his own surprise. Social media quickly filled with jokes about Kylie earning the ultimate birthday win — and Timothée earning a lesson in patience.

In a world of extravagant celebrity headlines, this one feels refreshingly sweet. A movie night. A nostalgic favorite. A thoughtful partner.

And a birthday surprise that was truly out of this world.
